Community Leisure Management has opened its new, wholly owned, CLM Masterton, a multi functional space that will host its after-school and holiday programmes.

Having recently lost the contract to manage Masterton’s Genesis Recreation Centre, which it had operated for 14 years, the new CLM Masterton (pictured above) will continue to manage CLM’s established Chill Out children’s programmes as well as other activities.

A CLM spokesperson advised that the Auckland-based contract manager was “obviously very disappointed” not to be continuing the contract with Masterton District Council, adding “but we’re excited to be maintaining a presence here in Masterton”.

With new contractor Belgravia Leisure taking on the Genesis Recreation Centre from 1st May, many of the staff formerly employed by CLM have been re-employed.

Looking back on CLM’s achievements while managing the Genesis Recreation Centre, CLM General Manager Bridget Cairns told local media that the company had “developed lots of things from scratch and grown our staffing”.

Coutts said workers hired and developed by CLM in Masterton had been given new opportunities to train and travel that they might not otherwise have had, adding “we’ve been proud to develop the team. It was an all-Masterton team from the counter to the facility manager.”

CLM Chief Executive Craig Carter is looking forward to the potential of CLM Masterton, concluding “I am excited about the potential at CLM Masterton and believe the team will take customer service to new levels, ensuring that the children have a safe and stimulating experience.”

CLM has also partnered up with Aktive Auckland to create a 20 week wellness programme designed to develop our youth on a number of different levels

The aim of the programme is to encourage youth (aged between 14 and 18) to increase their activity levels, and to educate them about the importance of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. Three CLM managed facilities (CLM The Bays, Otahuhu Pool and Leisure Centre and Papakura Recreation) are taking on 12 youths for a 20 week programme designed to achieve a number of outcomes such as increased fitness levels and increased hours of physical activity.
