Brisbane Broncos open new training and community hub

Brisbane Broncos open new training and community hub
March 12, 2018

A new $27 million training, administration and community facility at the former Ithaca TAFE site in the inner Brisbane suburb of Red Hill has been opened.

Set to be the Brisbane Broncos administration and training base, the new three-storey Clive Berghofer Centre was developed on Queensland Government-owned land and affirms the NRL’s strong links with the suburb where they have been based since 1988.

The facility, which features training facilities including a gymnasium, sports medicine and rehabilitation areas a contemporary three storey administration and training building; alecture theatre shared between the football department and the community; and a 116 metre long (between dead ball lines) and 68m wide full sized training field; was developed as a result of a commercial arrangement between the Broncos and the Queensland Government.

Queensland Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick explained “as part of this lease, the Broncos are giving back to the Queensland community that supports them with a dedicated community room and state-of-the-art lecture theatre as well as public access to the training field when not in use by the Broncos.”

Brisbane Broncos Chief Executive Paul White added  “the Clive Berghofer Centre will house the things that are most important to the club: Preparing to play our best rugby league for our supporters, operating our community programs that are improving lives across Queensland and Northern NSW, and providing the community with access to the Broncos.”

Minister Dick said the Broncos have moved into the new facility and will commence practice on the new playing field in preparation of the 2018 season.

Sited opposite the existing Broncos Leagues Club, the facility includes:

• A contemporary three storey administration and training building
• A large, dedicated community room available for daily use;
• A high-spec lecture theatre shared between the football department and the community;
• 116 metre long (between dead ball lines) and 68 metre wide full sized training field;
• 133 car parking spaces, including three spaces for people with disabilities;
• Training facilities include gymnasium, sports medicine and rehabilitation areas;
• A 6 metre high retractable netting structure to protect nearby roads from stray balls.
