read moreBungy jumping industry stakeholders from around the world are being encouraged to join an effort to create a standard that will support the growing number of bungy jumping operations worldwide. Being developed by US-based ASTM International, the proposed standard (WK62522) is being advanced by ASTM International’s subcommittee on adventure attractions (F24.61), part of the committee on amusement rides and devices (F24).
The standard aims to establish criteria for the design, manufacture, installation, operation, maintenance, auditing, and modification of bungy jumping operations.
According to ASTM International member Mike Teske, Technical Director at Celtic Engineering, Inc., the increasing number of bungy jumping operations around the world has heightened the need for standardisation.
Notably, the subcommittee has already developed standards for inflatable amusement devices, aerial adventure courses, and trampoline arenas. In addition to bungy jumping, the group is also working on proposed standards for hayrides (WK50036) and pedestrian obstacle courses (WK54714).
The next in-person meeting of the committee will be 16th April in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Industry stakeholders, operators and manufacturers wishing to have input to the Standard should get in touch with Committee Contact Katerina Koperna on +1 610 832 9728 (USA), E: kkoperna@astm.org
