Zoos SA launch live streaming keeper talks

Zoos SA launch live streaming keeper talks
April 3, 2020

Zoos SA has launched live streaming with Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park delivering Facebook and Instagram Live weekly keeper talks, weekly Q&A sessions with keepers, 24/7 live streams from the panda, rhino and chimpanzee enclosures, educational content, children’s activities and more.

Zoos SA Chief Executive, Elaine Bensted advises “our gates might be temporarily closed but that won’t stop us. We want to ensure everyone can see our animals and learn all about them while safely at home.

“Feedback from our valued members and public since closing has told us that they miss our animals, that they love the updates and that it gives a much-needed lift when they see them, even if it’s not face to face.

“We are all doing it tough right now, so if we can help by adding some smiles and at the same time give kids and adults the chance to learn about our animals and how we are saving them from extinction then we’re 100% in!

Bensted adds that their live stream cameras will allow viewers to see the animals throughout the day, including seeing them feed, sleep and, in the chimpanzees’ case, play together.

“Of course, our animals always run the show, so if they decide not to participate or to try something new, then so be it. The live element, including comments and questions from our audience, will certainly add to the excitement!”

Coinciding with the first week at home for all South Australian school children, the inaugural week of the program includes:

Monday 6th April: Q&As about Quokkas

Wednesday 8th April: Keeper talk Monarto Safari Park’s bilbies

Thursday 9th April: Adelaide Zoo’s Giant Pandas Wang Wang and Fu Ni
