Sustainable water management at Western Australian aquatic facilities recognised at Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program awards
June 3, 2025

Western Australian aquatic facilities including the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre and Swan Active Ballajura have been recognised for excellence in water management at the 2025 Water Corporation Waterwise Awards.

With the awards recognised the efforts of local governments through the Waterwise Council Program, Western Australian Water Minister, Don Punch commented “being waterwise is a shared responsibility ... the Waterwise Council and Leisure Centre Programs are excellent examples of what can be achieved when we prioritise collaboration and innovation in our everyday work.”

Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre sets the standard
This year, Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre was awarded Platinum Waterwise Aquatic Centre of the Year - the program’s highest accolade. This prestigious recognition is reserved for centres that not only meet Gold-level requirements but go well beyond, demonstrating innovation, leadership, and excellence in sustainable water use.

Mandurah’s achievement is the result of ongoing efforts to integrate water-saving technologies, staff training, and community education programs that embed waterwise thinking into everyday operations. Their holistic and forward-thinking approach exemplifies what the Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program was designed to foster.

New Endorsement Strengthen the Network
Recognised among high-performing centres, Swan Active Ballajura was acknowledged as a New Gold Waterwise Aquatic Centre, having implemented best-practice water management strategies that reflect their commitment to environmental responsibility and community leadership.

Also joining those recognised, Cameron Pratt from Wanneroo Aquamotion was a finalist in the Waterwise Champion award category.

LIWA Aquatics was represented at the Awards breakfast on 7th May by President Dan Barber and acting Executive Officer Travis Doye.

The Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program, a joint initiative between Water Corporation and LIWA Aquatics since 2008, has now helped 58 facilities across Western Australia reach waterwise endorsement - a growing testament to the sector’s commitment to sustainability.

The Program plays a central role in supporting the Western Australian Government’s Kep Katitjin-Gabi Kaadadjan (Waterwise Action Plan 3), which aims to establish leading waterwise communities in Boorloo (Perth) and Bindjareb (Peel) by 2030.
