South Australian Government extends Sports Voucher program to swimming lessons

South Australian Government extends Sports Voucher program to swimming lessons
November 4, 2019

The South Australian Government has expanded its Sports Vouchers program so that parents and carers can use them to help pay for their child’s swimming lessons.

Advising that the expansion of the $100 per child Sports Vouchers program can now be used to include private swimming lessons by recognised swim schools, South Australian Minister for Recreation and Sport Corey Wingard stated "we received quite a few requests from people right across the state to include swimming lessons in the vouchers program and we’ve listened.

“It is vital that our children know how to stay safe in and around water and swimming lessons are an important part of that.”

The South Australian Government’s Sports Vouchers are available to all primary school aged children for a range of sports including AFL, football, netball and, as of January this year, dance.

Families can claim one voucher per child, per calendar year.

Minister Wingard added “up to October this year more than 58,000 vouchers have been claimed with a total value of nearly $5.7 million.

"That’s $5.7 million back into the pockets of hard-working mums and dads,”

“Since we promised to double the value of the voucher to $100 our Sports Vouchers program has proven extremely popular among SA families.

“We’ve committed to the program to at least the end of 2022 meaning a saving for families of close to $30 million.”
