Showground Improvement Plans approved for Shoalhaven
Following the receipt of funding from NSW Government's Showground Stimulus Package, Shoalhaven City Council will be delivering a number of improvements to four of their showgrounds for the enjoyment of visitors, user groups and campers, as requested by community user groups.
Improvements will be made to accessibility, lighting, fencing, surfaces and air conditioning.
Shoalhaven Mayor Amanda Findley notes "our showgrounds are iconic parts of our community fabric with many having hosted country shows for over 100 years. They are also important for keeping our community connected and for livestock and economic purposes.
"We appreciate the funding available through NSW Government's Showground Stimulus Package and Council has made applications for all showgrounds in each of the two funding rounds.
"These improvements will protect public health and safety, the user experience should be enhanced and the community will appreciate the work that is being done. Flow on effects from the work will be felt through our local businesses.
"Council would like to thank the show societies and management committees for their ongoing support of these essential community facilities, and the commitment of their time and prompt assistance in developing these project proposals.
Mayor Findley adds “our show societies and management committees are dedicated groups of volunteers who spend enormous amounts of time caring for and making sure our showgrounds are in the best possible shape they can, to cater for everyday use to the one off special events that we see happen at our local grounds. I hope the community join me in thanking them for their commitment.
Round 1 improvements:
• Accessible pathway, amenities and laundry at Milton Showground camping and recreational facility
• Improvements to lighting, air conditioning, carpet and fencing at Nowra Showground
• Improvements to the visual amenity, air conditioning and fencing at Berry Showground
• Air conditioning and main arena fencing at Kangaroo Valley Showground
Further improvement projects have been submitted for round 2 funding which are yet to be finalised.
