read moreA year after the opening of Australia’s first via ferrata (iron path) experience, Victoria’s Mt Buller has introduced a second route at its summit.
The new Route 2 at RockWire Mt Buller offers a steeper, longer and greater challenge than its predecessor, described as presenting “jaw-dropping views, heart-racing verticals, long wire bridges and a sense of accomplishment that’ll have you grinning ear-to-ear”.
Route 2 designer James Webb explains “with Route 2, we’ve pushed the boundaries again of what RockWire offers.”
Webb, founder and Director of RockWire, notes “it’s about creating an experience that’s equal parts daring and awe-inspiring, but still completely safe for climbers of all levels. Route 2 is the ultimate playground for thrill-seekers and anyone looking for an experience they’ve never done before.”
Offerig a guided, fully harnessed experience, Route 2 is set to open as of this Saturday (8th February) and is appropriate for all from experienced climbers to first-time adventurers.
RockWire Mt Buller is Australia’s first (and currently only) via ferrata, offering climbers of all levels a safe and unforgettable adventure through rugged cliffs and stunning alpine views.
RockWire Route 2
• Altitude:
o Start point: 1720m
o Lowest point: 1630m
• Length: 650m
• Time To Complete: 4-5 hours
The new route is higher, steeper and considerably harder both physically and mentally, than Route 1 with more vertical sections.
Most of the route is either straight up or straight down and requires a good amount of fitness.
Editor’s note: A via ferrata (Italian for ‘iron path’) is a protected climbing route found in Europe’s Alps and certain other Alpine locations. The protection includes steel fixtures such as cables and railings to arrest the effect of any fall, which the climber can either hold onto or clip into using climbing protection.
