Mt Buller advises of early end to winter season operations

Mt Buller advises of early end to winter season operations
August 30, 2024

Victorian ski resort Mt Buller has advised that its winter operations are to end early, confirming that Sunday 1st September will be the last day of its 2024 snow season.

In an update released late yesterday, Mt Buller Destination Marketing advised “despite the heroic efforts of the mountain operations team who have been making and moving snow it has been decided skiing and snowboarding for the season will wrap up at 5pm Sunday.”

It added “a fortnight of gale force winds, rain and wild weather has dramatically reduced the snow cover across most of the ski area and all available snow is being harvested and groomed to ensure the best possible experience for guests on Bourke Street and the Gliders carpet area until the close of operations.”

Buller Ski Lifts General Manager, Noel Landry shared the decision, noting “like all skiers and snowboarders we were holding out hopes for season-saving snow in last night's storm however the 1-2cms that fell was unfortunately too little, too late.

“I would like to thank everyone in our team who has tried valiantly to keep us sliding for as long as possible. It seems unfair to have had two challenging seasons in a row but I am immensely proud of everyone who have kept striving and smiling and will be doing so until Sunday afternoon.”

Skiers and boarders are invited to make the most of the final days of the season with fun sliding on Bourke Street with the Bourke Street Express and Bourke St and Gliders carpets rolling and ideal conditions for beginners with soft spring snow.

Lift passes are discounted to reflect the reduced terrain and beginner level lessons are available at the Ski & Snowboard School.

Resort Management General Manager, Alan Arthur went on to say "I want to thank everyone for their hard work in what has been an incredibly challenging season. The lack of natural snow was not what we wanted for our 100th year of skiing, but the celebrations were a highlight I’m sure many of us won’t forget. We now look forward to the green season, and planning for winter 2025."

Vehicles will be free to enter the Mt Buller Village from noon and the requirement to carry wheel chains will no longer be enforced.

Resort Entry and parking charges have been reduced to $44 for the last days of season 2024. The free carpark shuttle and village shuttles will run until 6pm on Sunday and bookable RideShare services will be available for those with luggage or needing transport directly between accommodation and car parks.
