SCG introduces technology to reduce food and beverage queues
Fans attending events at the Sydney Cricket Ground can now avoid food and beverage queues thanks to new WaitTime technology installed around the venue.
The Sydney Cricket and Sports Grounds has partnered with USA-based venue technology innovators WaitTime to provide fans with an improved customer experience when purchasing food and beverage. Fans will now be able to access queuing times and directional information displayed on screens around the venue.
Explaining the introduction of the technology, Sydney Cricket and Sports Grounds Chief Executive Kerrie Mather stated “the new service allows spectators to view outlet queuing times on dozens of screens around the SCG and it will soon also be available in our new mobile app.
“I’ve had a close look at this technology and it’s fantastic - the SCG will be the first in Australia to integrate the offering across an entire venue.”
The USA-based WaitTime technology uses artificial intelligence and advanced algorithms to analyse queuing times and provide estimated waits at nearby outlets. WaitTime also allows SCG to monitor which outlets are in demand and allocate staffing resources accordingly.
The SCG successfully trialled the new technology at the Sydney Roosters-Wests Tigers game last Saturday. It will be in full operation for the Sydney Swans-Collingwood game this Friday, with an expected capacity crowd.
WaitTime is used at other world-class venues including the home courts of NBA clubs the Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons.
