SCG Trust pledges own funds to redevelop stadium fitness club and aquatic centre
The Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust has clarified the future of its aquatic and fitness centre, advising that it is to fund the redevelopment of its pool, gym, cafe and related facilities from a long-term loan facility that will fall outside of the $729 million budgeted by the NSW Government for the redevelopment of the Allianz (Sydney Football) Stadium.
Most recently known as the UTS Stadium Club, the exclusive facility currently offers a main gymnasium area, containing over 100 pieces of strength and new state of the art cardio equipment, a 25 metre outdoor heated pool, four synthetic tennis courts, two squash courts, large group exercise studio, spa, sauna, steam room, crèche, two massage rooms and Azure café.
Details of what the new rebuilt club will offer have yet to be revealed.
Having advised that “the availability of these services to Gold and Platinum members will be affected by the impending Allianz Stadium rebuild”, the SCG Trust is understood to be searching for a temporary location to which it can relocate during the rebuilding of the venue.
The SCG Trust has also launched its new uniform range ahead of one of its biggest events of the year, the New Year’s Test.
More than 500 staff across customer service, crowd safety, grounds and maintenance will be sporting the new look, with the uniforms unveiled at a recent fashion show.
The SCG partnered with the Total Image Group, the official supplier for the Australian Winter Olympic Team, to create the custom kit for venue staff.
SCG Trust Chief Executive Kerrie Mather advised “we’re proud of our history and heritage, proud to host sports and fans from anywhere, and proud of our people.
“Just as there are memorable moments in sport, there are also memorable moments in attending sport. We want fans to remember the great time they had at the SCG just as much as what happened on the field.”
Taking direction and inspiration from the SCG’s heritage, the signature design honours the venue’s sporting history with subtle references to rugby, cricket and 1930s fashion.
