Sapphire Aquatic Centre heat pump upgrade reduces carbon footprint and energy cost

Sapphire Aquatic Centre heat pump upgrade reduces carbon footprint and energy cost
May 22, 2023

Bega Valley Shire Council has advised that the Sapphire Aquatic Centre in Pambula has installed two new energy efficient heat pumps to maintain steady pool temperatures throughout the year.

The pumps are anticipated to reduce the aquatic centre’s costs with an expected annual saving of $19,000.

Aquatic and Leisure Facilities Coordinator, Nic Hoynes said the NSW Government-funded heat pump upgrade will significantly reduce the centre's carbon footprint and energy costs.

Hoynes notes “according to manufacturer equipment modelling, the new heat pumps are expected to achieve a significant reduction in energy consumption and CO2 emissions when compared with the previous units.

“And while the pumps are keeping water temperatures steady, they will also keep our costs down, with an expected annual saving of $19,000 due to their reduced electrical consumption.

“We are looking forward to comparing energy consumption information and seeing what the savings will be.

“These upgrades couldn’t have come at a better time with the cold months knocking at our door. This stable and efficient heating will lead to a much better experience for our customers, regardless of the outside temperature.

“The reduced carbon footprint also contributes to Council’s overall sustainability goals and meets community expectations that we manage the environmental impact of our facilities.

“The project was fully funded by the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund, Round 5.

"Through securing this funding, we were able to replace the 13-year-old heat pumps which had reached the end of their serviceable life.”
