Visiting Taronga Zoo on Tuesday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle joined Premier Gladys Berejiklian to open the facility, meet koalas and their joeys that are part of the Zoo’s breeding conservation program while also visiting science laboratories to meet female conservation scientists and hear about their vital work.
Accompanied by thousands of well-wishers the royal couple have this week also visited the Sydney Opera House to watch a performance by the Bangarra Dance Company, dancing ‘Black’ from ‘Spirit 2018’ and the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney.
Speaking about the visit, Premier Berejiklian stated “I am delighted to welcome Their Royal Highnesses to Sydney today and to show them around our great city.
“The Duke and Duchess were very excited to meet the koala joeys.”
The Tourism and Transport Forum has welcomed the royal visit, highlighting how it is showcasing Australia’s tourism product around world.
In a statement, it advised “tuurism is a great tool for exposing people to different cultures and a different way of life, if only for a short time. It gives people new ideas and experiences and a fresh perspective.”
The state-of-the-art Taronga Institute of Science and Learning is the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and home to the largest zoo-based conservation science team in Australasia.
