Roosters win NRL Minor Premiership in front of record crowd
The Sydney Roosters won the 2013 NRL Minor Premiership in front of the biggest stand-alone-crowd for a regular season match in rugby league history.
The Roosters' victory in front of a crowd of 59,708 at Sydney Olympic Park's ANZ Stadium on the evening of Friday 6th September 2013 smashed a host of crowd records:
The crowd is the biggest ever stand-alone regular season attendance, surpassing the 58,593 set in 1993 between the Broncos and Dragons;
It is the highest stand-alone regular season crowd in Sydney, surpassing the record of 51,686 set on Good Friday this year between the Rabbitohs and Bulldogs;
It is the highest ever NRL Friday night regular season attendance, surpassing the mark of 37,773 set in 2010 at ANZ Stadium between the Bulldogs and Dragons;
The highest regular season attendance for a Roosters-Rabbitohs match, surpassing the mark of 43,469 set at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 1967.
Following the game, NRL Chief Executive Dave Smith paid tribute to the Rabbitohs and Roosters clubs and their members and fans for creating a finals-like atmosphere, as well as ANZ Stadium and Sydney's City Rail for their assistance with integrated travel.
Smith explained "it was a fantastic game tonight and what a great finals series we have to look forward to.
"Congratulations to the Sydney Roosters for winning the 2013 Minor Premiership.
"It is a wonderful achievement that everyone at the club the players, officials, and staff and your members and fans can take great pride in."
