read moreOpened to the public on Tuesday, Perth’s Matagarup Bridge climb experience, seen as a major step towards activating the Optus Stadium Precinct, has already sold over 2,500 tickets.
The adventure experience takes around 90 minutes and includes a pre-safety briefing, full body harness and equipment fitting before participants commence the climb.
The bridge climb itself is a fully-guided 314-step trek at a steep 45-degree angle up the bridge's main arch, ascending around 70 metres above the Swan River to the open-air 'sky view' deck - Perth's first glass bottom platform.
Climbers have around 15 minutes on the fully-enclosed platform to take in the 360 degree panoramic views of Perth, Burswood and the city surrounds.
Welcoming the new attraction, Western Australian Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti stated “having climbed the bridge myself recently, I can say that this experience is both challenging and exhilarating and I am sure it will be a very popular attraction for both locals and tourists.”
Experience operators, Matagarup Zip+Climb has started planning a second stage of activities to encourage more people to the Optus Stadium precinct.
These include an all-ages aerial adventure park, an 18-hole miniature golf course and a licenced cafe located near the zip-line landing platform.
The aerial adventure park is likely to consist of dozens of high ropes activities, with challenges and obstacles to accommodate up to 150 people. Similar to the climb, patrons will be fitted in harnesses, which will be tethered onto the 20-metre high aerial park.
Commenting on these additions, Western Australian Tourism Minister, Paul Papalia noted “these adventure-style activities will be a great boost for WA tourism, providing a unique attraction for locals, families and visitors to our State.
"The Matagarup Bridge zip and climb, together with the climbing frame and miniature golf course, will be a major drawing card for the Burswood Park and Stadium precincts."
Perth Bridge Climb+Zip General Manager, Ryan Zaknich added “we're thrilled to be commencing operations and are committed to further activating Burswood Park, bringing other exciting adventure and family-friendly activities to the area.
"Plans for the climbing frame and mini-golf are now being finalised and we hope to commence construction of these in the next six months.
"Burswood Park is such a beautiful location, we can't wait to showcase another side of Perth through our new tourism attractions."
