ABC News Perth has reported that Western Australia's Treasurer Troy Buswell has asked the State's Auditor General to investigate the contract awarded by the previous Labor government for the Perth Arena sport and entertainment complex on the city's Wellington Street.
The arena is under construction and is due to be finished by August 2011 at a cost of $500 million.
That is 20 months later and nearly $200 million more expensive than originally intended.
Treasurer Buswell says the way the original contract is structured means the project could never have been completed on time or on budget.
He stated "our issue isn't with the contractor in that case, our issues are with the processes adopted by the former government and potential issues around probity associated with that."
