read moreOn behalf of School Infrastructure NSW, PCYC NSW has been awarded the contract to manage and operate the West Ryde Multi Sports Facility. The new facility will be shared with the local community as part of a new joint-use agreement between PCYC NSW and the NSW Department of Education.
The Centre, which is on the site of the former Marsden High School, will be the new home of the Eastwood Ryde Netball Association (ERNA). Earlier this year, Marsden High School moved to the new, purpose-built Meadowbank Education and Employment Precinct. Demolition of school buildings has been granted and the construction contract has been awarded to Steven Edwards Construction (SEC).
The project proposes to deliver a new sports centre that will include four multi-purpose courts and a gymnasium, 32 outdoor netball courts, a kiosk, public amenities, on-site car parking and landscaping.
PCYC NSW Chief Executive Dominic Teakle said the organisation will continue to work closely with ERNA to make sure their needs and the needs of their community will be well met.
Teakle advised “as a youth charity, PCYC NSW has been at the centre of communities across NSW for 85 years and we are excited to be including the Ryde Multi Sports Facility as our 67th club.
“Our aim is to get young people active in life and provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills, character and leadership qualities. With our partners at the NSW Police Force we aim to reduce and prevent crime by, and against, young people by building resilience, encouraging positive life choices, and giving them a place to belong.
“We believe that sport and activity provide a vehicle for young people to achieve greatness. The activities we offer our young people help teach them valuable life skills and offer a sense of community, purpose and self-worth.
“We know this facility will be a thriving hub of activities and community and youth programs. We look forward to becoming the fun, safe and inclusive heart of the West Ryde community.”
Next steps for the $30 million project include statutory planning approvals before main works can start.
