Luna Park Sydney will be welcoming a new Chief Executive, John Hughes, as of 1st August, with long standing co-Chief Executives Peter Hearne and Warwick Doughty announcing their stepping down from their roles at the landmark Sydney harbourside attraction.

Currently the Head of Fox Studios Australia at Sydney’s Moore Park, Hughes will bring, according to Hearne “extensive and highly relevant experience, accumulated over the years working in both the entertainment and property sectors.”

Hearne added “it is a testament to the strength of our business and its enormous potential, that we have been able to attract someone of John’s standing to lead Luna Park into its next phase of growth.”

Hearne, Luna Park Sydney’s current Managing Director, advised in a communication that he and fellow Director Doughty, will be stepping down for their roles at of the heritage park and entertainment venue on 31st July, but will remain on the Board as independent directors.

Hearne advised “our decision is in line with our strategy to renew and grow Luna Park - a strategy that started last year with a $35 million package of improvements to the park and venues, including the installation of nine new world-class rides.”

Hearne (pictured) went on to advise “for over 85 years, Luna Park has been essential to the social and cultural fabric of Sydney, attracting an average of a million visitors every year, both from across Australia and from overseas.

“Since taking over the lease for the attraction 23 years ago, we have worked hard with our staff, our shareholders, our neighbours and with … our supporters, to turn Luna Park into a world-class, heritage parks for the enjoyment of all Sydneysiders.

“Just like our rollercoasters, it’s been a ride of some downs but plenty of ups … we have loved every minute of it!”
