read moreAustralian Swim Schools Association (ASSA) members, Laurie Lawrence and Julie Zancanaro, are to be inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) during its upcoming annual ceremony.
Both Lawrence and Zancanaro were inducted into the Australian Swim Schools Hall of Fame last year, during ASSA’s inaugural Awards Dinner.
Lawrence, a legendary swimming coach, entrepreneur and internationally renowned water safety advocate, will receive ISHOF’s Gold Medallion Award.
As ISHOF President and Chief Executive Bruce Wigo explains “the purpose of the Gold Medallion Award is to provide positive role models for today’s youth.”
In addition, the Virginia Hunt Newman International Award will be presented to Zancanaro.
Called ‘The Mother of Infant Swimming’, Virginia Hunt Newman pioneered and focused worldwide attention on the non-forceful, non-traumatic method of teaching infants and preschool-age children to swim.
Commenting on Zancanaro’s recognition, ASSA Chief Executive Ross Gage stated “Julie Zancanaro is a perfect fit; with her expertise in infant swimming and passion for non-forceful methods.
Situated in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA the ISHOP is recognised by FINA, the international governing body for the Olympic aquatic sports as its official Hall of Fame.
The induction will be held from 25th to 27th August during ISHOF annual ceremony.
