Gang murder conviction highlights risks of freestanding queueing posts

Gang murder conviction highlights risks of freestanding queueing posts
November 3, 2011

The conviction of gang boss Mick Hawi over the murder of a rival at Sydney Airport in March 2009 has highlighted the dangers associated with freestanding queuing posts.

The victim, Anthony Zervas, was stabbed and bludgeoned with a queuing post/bollard - an incident that prompted Queue Safe National Manager John Roach to develop 'QSafe', a crowd control barrier system that offers distinct and remarkable advantages over conventional freestanding queuing posts.

Roach explains "public safety and quality of experience have always been of critical importance to venues and organisations that attract large numbers of customers and patrons.

"QSafe's post and rail system has been designed to manage the respectful flow of customers in a way that ensures their wellbeing and safety; improves the look and feel of the venue; and significantly reduces the time and cost of placement, storage and cleaning of the floor area."

The patented design of QSafe's post and anchor system is tamperproof- ensuring that the posts can only be installed and removed by authorised personnel.

The benefits of the QueueSafe System include:

• Public wellbeing and safety.
• No more unstable freestanding bollards.
• The opportunity for reduced Public Liability premiums.
• Improved customer relations.
• Improved space utilisation.
• Queue lines neat and tidy at all times.
• Greater flexibility.
• Reduced staff time in post set-out, retrieval and floor cleaning.
• Reduced exposure of staff to injury and fatigue.
• Less storage space required.

Roach adds that "the QueueSafe system can be installed after business hours with little or no disruption to a business."

Queue Safe Australia Pty Ltd is proudly a fully Australian owned company, committed to the provision of a specific range of Australian designed and manufactured high quality products which claim significant improvements for the safety and control of the queuing public.

QSafe's patented anchor mechanisms are at the heart of its unique products including:

Dinesafe: a single leg - stable table'- for public dining areas, restaurants and cafes. It secures rigidly into the floor, yet can be removed and stored in minutes by authorised staff; and
The Buttress: arguably Australia's most effective and heaviest removable security bollard in the marketplace.

Roach concludes "the tragic incident at Sydney Airport convinced me to vigorously pursue both innovations to international patent (PTC) status."
