Fitness Australia receives clarification from South Australia on filming workout videos and outdoor boot camps
April 16, 2020

The South Australian Government has provided direct confirmation and clarification to Fitness Australia about filming workout videos in gyms and outdoor boot camps.

The park body has advised “the rules imposed in South Australia relate to outdoor bootcamps and personal training activities refer to a maximum of 10 people (1 trainer + 9 clients), provided that the density requirement is complied with. The density requirement is no more than one person per 4 metre²."

As these directions are subject to change from time to time, Fitness Australia advises to check this link

Providers should also check the conditions of their council permit.

Indoor gyms are closed to members or consumers, but you can film / live stream from the gym premises as long as there is a group of less than 10 people (staff only) and the density requirement is complied with (1 person per 4 metre²).

South Australian Police have general powers to request information to investigate where they believe an offence is or has been committed. These powers include but are not limited to establishing identification and issuing move on orders. In this instance, proof that they are employees of the Gym may be requested.

Following the Monday 30th March closure of gyms, thousands of Australians have turned to online personal training, live streaming of classes and fitness videos to ensure they can continue to exercise in the safety of their own home during COVID-19.

Fitness Australia suggests that business owners and personal trainers consider the following when moving their workouts to online virtual training:

  • Contact your insurance provider, if your provider is Guild Insurance, you can reach them on 1800 810 213.
  • Read our recommendations on what to consider when you move to online virtual training
  • If you're unsure of local rules that may apply to your business, reach out to your local Police Station and Council.
