Eplus Architecture appointed to revamp Wilsons Promontory precinct

Eplus Architecture appointed to revamp Wilsons Promontory precinct
July 26, 2022

The Victorian Government has appointed Eplus Architecture as principal consultant on the $23 million Wilsons Promontory Revitalisation project, which will rejuvenate the information centre and its connections with surrounding visitor spaces and facilities.

Bendigo-based Eplus Architecture is one of regional Victoria’s largest architectural firms, and draws on other professionals such as specialist engineers, quantity surveyors and building services consultants as required for additional assistance with important but non-core tasks.

The Wilsons Promontory upgrade includes Tidal River, which is home to the park’s roofed accommodation, campground, toilets and amenities, café, general store and other facilities

The funding will also deliver new walking experiences, including a Telegraph Saddle trail to connect Tidal River and Mount Oberon, and an upgrade of the Wildlife Circuit.

Parks Victoria will be engaging with Traditional Owners and specialist consultants throughout the project to ensure Aboriginal cultural heritage and environmental values are protected.

Wilson’s Promontory is one of Parks Victoria’s most popular sites, with visitor numbers rebounding to pre-pandemic levels, with an estimated 197,700 visits in summer, up from 178,353 during summer 2020-19.

The national park also plays a critical role in protecting native biodiversity and these new upgrades will allow visitors to experience the park’s unique coastal landscape without impacting conservation.

Victorian Minister for Environment and Climate Action Lily D’Ambrosio advises “Considered and well-designed park facilities are essential to allowing people to connect with our incredible natural places in a sustainable way.”

“Wilsons Promontory is a haven for our treasured native wildlife, and this project will ensure visitors can continue to visit for many generations to come.”

Works will be delivered during 2023 and 2024, with the project expected to bring over $11 million into the regional economy.

This project is being funded as part of the $633 million Visitor Economy Recovery and Reform Plan.
