A new $3.5 million venture will see Pennicott Wilderness Journeys’ partner with nearby transport operators and small businesses to develop regional cruise-based itineraries for visitors for Melbourne.
Pennicott Wilderness Journeys’ first venture outside Tasmania will offer 100% carbon offset cruises allowing visitors the chance to experience the region’s world-class environment and fauna from the water.
Announcing the new partnership in Gippsland, Victorian Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren joined Pennicott Wilderness Journeys Managing Director Robert Pennicott.
Minister Eren stated “Pennicott Wilderness Journeys is one of Australia’s most popular tourism operators. This venture will mean even more visitors to Wilsons Promontory, one of Victoria’s top tourist destinations.
“(This) is a big win for the hotels, cafes and restaurants nearby, which will welcome more opportunities as a result of extra visitors to the region. This project will provide up to 30 ongoing jobs for this region.”
Wilsons Promontory is among Victoria’s most cherished destinations, boasting spectacular scenery of granite mountains, rainforests and sweeping beaches and coastlines.
Pennicott Wilderness Journeys is one of Australia’s most decorated tourism operators. The Tasmanian-based family-run company has won 11 Australian Tourism Awards, and has been judged Tasmania’s Best Tourism Attraction seven years in a row.
At the 30th Annual Qantas Australian Tourism Awards last year, Robert Pennicott was named Australian Tourism Legend for outstanding services to tourism over the years, while his Pennicott Wilderness Journeys won the Qantas Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism.
