Countdown to two aquatic industry events named SwimCon

Countdown to two aquatic industry events named SwimCon
August 9, 2022

Amid a busy period for aquatic industry conferences - three having been held in the past week - Australia is set to see two identically named SwimCon events, staged between during August and September.

Being held for the first time, Swimming Australia’s SwimCON22 is being staged at Sydney Olympic Park on the weekend of 20th and 21st August.

With speakers include FINA Executive Director, Brent Nowicki; Australian Sports Commission Chief Executive and former Swimming Australia President, Kieren Perkins; Australian Olympic Committee Chief Executive, Matt Carroll and Paralympics Australia Chief Executive, Catherine Clark, Swimming Australian say the event will “discuss the challenges and opportunities of this next critical phase, as well as showcase the world-leading coaching practices, performance technology and innovation central to the success of Australia’s #1 Olympic sport”.

Less than a month later, Swim Coaches and Teachers Australia will be staging its SWIMCON22 conference (formerly known as ASCTACON) over four days on the Gold Coast from 17th to 20th September.

Swim Coaches and Teachers Australia have successfully run an annual swim convention for over 50 years and last year would have been the 50th edition were it not for COVID.

The theme for SWIMCON22, ‘Unleashed - Connect|Create|Celebrate’, aims to bring the swim industry back together to network and learn.

Advising that this year’s conference will be the association’s most ambitious yet and would be filled with keynote speakers and industry leaders/professionals’ talks, specifically designed to encourage growth and development in every guest no matter their position in the industry, SWIM Coaches and Teachers Australia (SCTA) Chief Executive, Brendon Ward stated “after two years of postponed and online-only events, we want to make a real impact with SWIMCON22.”

Ward added “(our conference) has provided outstanding networking, education and professional development opportunities to our members on the latest coaching, teaching and swim school practices.

“Each year we are delighted to host participants from throughout Australia and around the world who make the trip to invest in excellent information and the reputation our conference delivers. SWIMCON22 has been advertised since mid-April 2022.

“From 2018, our annual national convention was called ASCTACON and in 2019 we approached Swimming Australia with the idea of a joint SWIMCON to bring together our entire community. Unfortunately, due to COVID this did not happen.

“As a result of our branding change to SWIM Coaches & Teachers Australia in April 2022 our national convention was repositioned as SWIMCON to align with our other SWIM Brands including SWIM Australia, SWIM Jobs Victoria, SWIMSAFER, SWIM It Forward etc.

“As SWIM Coaches & Teachers Australia have held the business name and trading rights to SWIMCON since 2019, it is our responsibility to continue the 50 year tradition of delivering the aquatic industry's premier education event, whilst bringing industry stakeholders together for a united purpose ... a celebration of all things swimming.”

Ward went on to “wish Swimming Australia every success, as they embark on their maiden ‘Swimming Leaders’ Summit’."
