SWIMCON22 will be held next month on 20th and 21st August in Sydney Olympic Park and will bring together a collection of industry leaders including FINA Executive Director Brent Nowicki, Australian Sports Commission Chief Executive Kieren Perkins, Australian Olympic Committee Chief Executive Matt Carroll and Paralympics Australia Chief Executive Catherine Clark to delve into the key opportunities for Australian sport in this next critical phase.
Swimming’s ultimate rivalry between Australia and USA will also reignite at next month’s Duel in the Pool in Sydney, before Melbourne plays host to more than 1,000 athletes from over 180 countries at the 16th FINA World Short Course Championships in December, the first World Championships to be hosted in Australia in over a decade.
Swimming Australia Chief Executive, Eugénie Buckley believes there is limitless potential, for swimming and Australian sport more broadly, with a home Games on the horizon.
Buckley notes “we are acutely aware of the platform in front of us - in fact just this year we launched a new strategy entitled - 'our decade of opportunity' - and it’s incredibly motivating to consider where our sport could be come Games time.
“Our country has a proven record of hosting world class events and the ripple effects of stages such as Duel in the Pool and a FINA World Championships here in Australia is the inspiration it provides to those young girls and boys watching from the stands or in their living rooms - they are our future.”
“While exciting to consider what lies ahead, it’s just as important to hit the ground running and as our country’s leading Olympic & Paralympic sport we will take pride in building a legacy for our broad swimming community that builds into the games and beyond - that starts now.”
The event is distinct from Swim Coaches and Teachers Australia's SWIMCON22 conference (formerly known as ASCTACON) being helf over four days on the Gold Coast from 17th to 20th September.
