Controversial Coolangatta Beach festival relocates to Gold Coast’s Metricon Stadium

Controversial Coolangatta Beach festival relocates to Gold Coast’s Metricon Stadium
September 10, 2019

The inaugural SandTunes festival, which was to have been held on the Gold Coast’s Coolangatta Beach, has been relocated to a new venue following opposition from local residents.

To be held at the end of the year, the TEG Dainty promoted festival, with a line-up including an exclusive performance from US performer Travis Scott, will now be held at Carrara’s Metricon Stadium.

In a statement, TEG Dainty Chief Executive Geoff Jones advised that the move will provide attendees with a greater festival experience.

Jones stated “while Coolangatta presented as the perfect backdrop to host this event, and despite Gold Coast City Council approval, it has become increasingly apparent that local businesses and residents are now not in favour of that location.

“We have listened - and we are acting.

“We are committed to bringing premium ‘A-list’ artists to this great city and this great state and regardless of venue, we can’t imagine SandTunes being staged anywhere else than the GC.”

Queensland Minister for Tourism Kate Jones said the festival will bring thousands of tourists to the Gold Coast and “pump millions into the economy”.

SandTunes will take place from 30th November to 1st December.
