The CERM PI research team from the University of South Australia is inviting input to its annual Operational Management Benchmarking survey, which provides centre management and local councils with metrics to compare performance year-on-year and against industry benchmarks across Australia.

Some of the areas focused on and benchmarked in the survey include centre space, visitation, membership, equipment, receipts, expenditure, utilities, human resources, wages and fees.

These metrics can also help managers with pinpointing inefficiencies with the centre.  

New to this year, CERM PI is adding in new metrics to be benchmarked this year. Some of these include green energy usage (such as solar) and fitness passport visitations.

Also being added is more in-depth measures of membership usage of the centre. For instance, centres will be able to compare their average membership length (the average amount of time members stay members at the centre before cancelling) to other centres.

Another new measure concerning membership will be the average member visitation per week.   

With one month left to register participation, facilities and managers can gain:

• National perspectives/snapshots on operational performance of sports, aquatic and leisure centres
• Annual national benchmarking survey provides robust industry operational indicators for Australasian sport, aquatic and leisure centres
• Comparison of your facility’s results with well-established industry relevant KPI’s
• KPIs reported for key aspects of operational management including finance, services, marketing, human resources, and utilities.

Registration to participate in the current 2023 CERM PI Operational Management for Australia Public Aquatic and Recreation Centres are now open.
