read moreYMCA NSW has appointed regional Project Management Firm, Central West Project Management from Oberon, to lead the $4.58 million redevelopment of the Broken Hill YMCA.
Backed by $3.9 million in funding through the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Resources for Regions program, the new facility will provide Broken Hill with a state-of-the-art Integrated Wellness Facility, improving long term health outcomes for all our residents.
The project will see the existing fitness centre on the western NSW city’s Chloride Street transformed into a wellness centre that will offer holistic services including mental health support, culturally appropriate fitness programs, mine-worker wellbeing programs and inclusive programs for people with disabilities.
Announcing the project manager, YMCA NSW Chief Executive Leisa Hart stated “we are delighted to announce the appointment of Central West Project Management to lead the management of the design and construction of this fantastic redevelopment project, which will transform the Broken Hill YMCA and provide much needed health and wellness support to the Broken Hill community.
“In appointing Central West Project Management, we are pleased also to be able to support regional businesses and jobs, which reflects our commitment to the many rural and regional communities across NSW that we are a part of.”
Managing Director of Central West Project Management, Chris Milne, said his company understands the impact a large build has on a regional community and is excited about this amazing project.
He added “we are looking forward to being involved in this exciting project for the YMCA and the people of Broken Hill. It allows us to build a closer working relationship with Broken Hill and this region of NSW. We will also actively engage with local and other regional organisations in the delivery of the project.”
YMCA Broken Hill currently provides services to over 2,500 local residents, runs swimming lessons for over 500 children and employs almost 60 staff and volunteers. The proposed new Integrated Wellness Centre will also create at least 15 new jobs.
YMCA NSW has been involved with the Broken Hill community for 100 years, and more than half of the not for profit’s 100 locations are in rural and regional areas.
Development of the site is expected to begin in October.
