Brisbane City Council unveils plans for upgraded Clem Jones Aquatic Centre

Brisbane City Council unveils plans for upgraded Clem Jones Aquatic Centre
August 24, 2020

A major revamp for one of South East Queensland’s oldest aquatic centres has been unveiled by Brisbane City Council.

The planned four-stage redevelopment of the 60 years old Clem Jones Aquatic Centre in Carina to become a “state-of-the-art community health and wellbeing precinct” will include a drive-through canteen along with shops, office space, health services and more indoor and outdoor sport facilities.

The Council’s development application for the redevelopment advises “the vision is to create a state of the art training and rehabilitation hub setting a new bench mark for design, inclusivity, facilities and sports administration.”

Explaining the drive-through coffee shop/canteen, the application notes that “(this) is not typical of such a tenancy within a sporting complex.

“The drive through function also assists in ensuring persons serving a ‘drop and go’ function do not utilise an on-site parking space whilst utilising food and drink outlet facilities.”

Allied health medical suites, sporting bodies and a beauty salon are also shown as tenants in the renders.
