read moreA decision has been made to postpone the Alice Springs Masters Games until 2023 in light of continuing uncertainty around COVID-19 and the impacts the worldwide pandemic has had on forward planning for the event.
A multisport event that takes place across numerous venues, the Masters Games have been attracting competitors from around the nation to Central Australia since they first took place in 1986.
Usually held every two years, the ASMG 2020 was deferred to 2022 due to COVID-19. Deferring the event again until 2023 will also allow event organisers to refresh the program, and further develop the event for the next games and into the future.
Northern Territory Minister for Major Events Natasha Fyles notes “we are disappointed to be deferring the Alice Springs Masters Games until 2023, but it is the best solution in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Thanks to everyone who has played a part in pulling together our ‘Friendly Games’ to date, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the beautiful Red Centre for the ASMG in 2023.”
The next instalment of the ASMG will be confirmed in due course. To find out more visit www.alicespringsmastersgames.com.au/.
The Arafura Games has also been delayed until at least 2023. Bringing teams from dozens of countries around the world to Darwin to compete in a wide range of sports, the Arafura Games was only revived in 2019 after an eight year hiatus.
