read moreThe first stage of development at The Oval Precinct at Subi East will deliver new community amenity and facilities around Subiaco Oval in January and will include adventure playgrounds and parkour equipment along with a youth plaza and shaded seating areas.
Western Australian contractor RJ Vincent and Co has been awarded the contract to undertake civil and initial landscaping works. Stage 1 public realm and landscaping works for The Oval Precinct were approved in May following a public comment period.
Plans for the area also include a heritage plaza and landscaping around the Subiaco Oval; landscaping around The Oval Precinct including a reinterpretation of the Sandover Medal Walk; and the Noongar six seasons bidi.
Work also includes extending Subiaco Road to Haydn Bunton Drive and upgrades to Court Place improving safety for pedestrians, cyclists and parents dropping off students at the new Bob Hawke College.
Subiaco Oval will remain open for public use throughout works, which are anticipated to be completed in late 2022.
The first land releases at The Oval Precinct are expected to take place in the first half of 2022.
Subi East will see the transformation of 35 hectares of underutilised inner-city land to create a vibrant and connected city village, with the creation of more than 2,700 new dwellings together with commercial, retail and community space.
Western Australian Planning Minister Rita Saffioti notes "Subiaco is a special place for many people, being the home of the iconic Subiaco Oval and former Princess Margaret Hospital.
"We want to strike the right balance between respecting and acknowledging the heritage of Subiaco and encouraging new life and interest in the suburb.
"It's important to deliver public amenity early with these types of redevelopments to demonstrate how the community, existing and new, will benefit.
"The new Oval Precinct will deliver a diverse range of exciting new facilities for visitors and the local community to enjoy, as well as providing a diverse range of housing outcomes in one of Perth's oldest suburbs, with first land releases expected to take place in the first half of 2022.”
