Perth's Paterson Stadium has been renamed Domain Stadium with the Western Australian Football Commission (WAFC) announcing a three-year naming rights deal with real estate media business The Domain Group.

The previous four-year deal with Patersons Securities expired at the end of last year and with an apparently significantly reduced offer to extend the deal through to the end of 2017 the WAFC decided to test the market.

As a result the Subiaco Oval will be known as Domain Stadium for the final three years during which it hosts Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles home games in the AFL. As of the 2018 AFL season, the teams will shift their home games to the new Perth Stadium.

WAFC Chief Executive Gary Walton said the deal was critical for the AFL in Western Australia for the coming years.

Walton told AFL.com.au "it was important for us to either renew or replace that deal, and we were operating in a very difficult market with a stadium that's got a limited life with the introduction of the new Perth Stadium.

"So it was absolutely crucial for us to get the deal done."

The Domain Group was also named as new sponsors of Adelaide Crows last week.

Over the last year the WAFC’s management team at Domain Stadium has secured numerous performance and business awards.
