Adelaide Fringe Festival aiming to be first event in Australia to sell one million tickets

Adelaide Fringe Festival aiming to be first event in Australia to sell one million tickets
March 17, 2023

The Adelaide Fringe Festival is aiming to hit the one million ticket goal, which would see an almost 18% increase on the highest selling year on record – 2020 – when 853,419 tickets were sold.

The 2023 Fringe runs from 17th Feb-19th Mar 2023 and everyone is encouraged to make the most of the long weekend to see as many shows as possible.

With a huge array of shows including cabaret, theatre, comedy, circus, music, visual arts and workshops across more than 500 venues in South Australia, there is something for everyone.

The 2023 event has more than 750,000 tickets already sold and if the target is reached, the South Australian festival will be the first event in Australia to ever sell one million tickets.

English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran’s 2018 tour of Australia and New Zealand broke the record for total ticket sales, with the tour aggregate eclipsing one million.

South Australians, along with visitors from interstate and overseas, have come out in droves to support this year’s festival.

To date, 364,086 new interstate visitors have come onto the Adelaide Fringe website.

The South Australian Government’s additional $8 million investment (over four years) has been a huge success with part of the funding used to market the Fringe interstate.

Heather Croall, Adelaide Fringe Chief Executive shares “we are on track to smash the record set in 2020 with 750,000 tickets already sold.

“I encourage people to go and see one extra show over the long weekend or head out with friends and family to see a show as a group so together, we can reach that goal of one million tickets sold.”
