World’s largest Korean pop culture convention and music festival heads to Sydney
KCON, the world’s largest Korean pop culture convention and music festival, is coming to Australia for the first time in September, being held at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena.
The two-day spectacular will showcase everything about Korean lifestyle including K-fashion, K-beauty, K-food, K-dance, K-drama by day, and then unleash the high-energy sounds and sights of top K-pop artists by night.
TEG is presenting KCON Australia 2017 in conjunction with producer CJ E&M, Asia’s leading content and media company - headquartered in Seoul, Korea. The two-day KCON will be staged at Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney, on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd September.
KCON started in California in 2012 and now attracts over 100,000 fans to its events in New York and Los Angeles while similar events are held in Abu Dhabi, Paris, Mexico City and Tokyo.
Introducing the event to Australia, Shin Hyung Kwan, CJ E&M’s President of Music Contents Business division, and the man in charge of KCON stated “we’ve come a long way across the world - Latin America-Asia-North America - to finally arrive in Australia as our last stop on KCON 2017 tour.
“As world’s largest total lifestyle K-culture convention, we’ve pushed forward to expand Korean wave and to make people experience different aspects of K-culture, exploring new territory and meeting diverse people worldwide.
“Together with TEG, we will provide fascinating experience by connecting Australian fans into one through Hallyu.”
TEG Chief Executive Geoff Jones is delighted to be bringing KCON to Sydney, adding “the global spread of K-pop is one of the biggest waves to sweep entertainment over the past decade and we know there is a massive following across Australia,” said Jones. “The youthful energy behind KCON makes it an absolutely unique concept and TEG will make sure that KCON in Sydney is unforgettable.”
KCON will feature nine of the hottest K-pop bands in the world over two huge concert nights, with details of the artists to be announced next week.
The pre-sale opens at 12 noon Friday 11th August and the general public on sale commences at 2pm on Monday 14th August at the Tickeket website.
Since its launch in 2012, KCON has grown exponentially to become the undisputed epicentre for all things Hallyu (a.k.a The Korean Wave). KCON first began in California in 2012, and the festival began to expand in earnest last year, holding KCON UAE (Abu Dhabi), France (Paris), Mexico (Mexico City), Japan (Tokyo) and US (New York, Los Angeles).
In total KCON attracted more than 460,000 Korean culture fans around the world over the past six years.
The KCON 2017 festival will operate under the banner theme of ‘Let’s KCON’, underlining the festival’s essence - present since its inception - to promote engagement between the fans themselves, between fans and the stars, and between fans and the multi-faceted cultural phenomenon of Hallyu.
