Griffith City Council has advised that contractors are edging closer to completion on its 50 metre pool project.

The project, part of the $26.5 million Sports Precinct funded by the Federal Government's Building Better Regions Fund, the NSW Government's Regional Sports Infrastructure Fund and the Council, features the construction of a 50 metre pool, new change rooms and toilets, accessibility ramp into the pool, and a new pump room to accommodate the needs of the new infrastructure.

Advising that he is pleased with the progress being made and is currently finalising plans for opening next month, Council’s Director Business, Cultural and Financial Services, Max Turner recently advised “Hines Constructions have worked very hard and under some difficult circumstances to deliver this project, and we are excited to announce we will be holding a community ‘We Love Our Pool’ Open Day on Sunday 14th February 2021.

“This will be the first day the community will be able to enjoy the new pool facilities and we will be celebrating with free entry, a free BBQ and a DJ to create a real party atmosphere.

“The event also coincides with the 21st birthday of Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre – what better way to celebrate these significant milestones."

Contractors are filling the pool this week, the remaining aspects of the project set to be finalised by the end of January.

Council’s Leisure Services Manager, Alan Anderson said he is excited to see the project coming to fruition, adding "there has been a lot of community support for the 50 metre pool and we understand this has been quite a lengthy progress.

“We are looking forward to being able to open the new facilities for the community to enjoy in February.

“We have booked in several School Swimming Carnivals for early February and will be using these to ensure we have all our processes in place before opening to the wider community on 14th February."
