read moreLeading aquatic industry supplier S.R.Smith has completed the installation of a flexible swim wall at the soon-to-be-opened aquatic centre at Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus.
The new centre consists of a 50 metre swimming pool and an associated fitness orientated facility – located next to the athletics track in the heart of the Gold Coast campus.
With the University aiming for the pool to attract maximum usage by students and within the local community, the installation of SwimWall Systems™ technology provides operational flexibility and enhanced revenue opportunities.
Positioned on the pool floor when not in use, when filled with air, the SwimWall moves into a vertical position, forming a pool wall that is designed to fit around lane lines. This system effectively doubles the number of lanes, while also offering the flexibility to have some swim lanes 50 metres in length, and others 25 metres.
The system also allows multiple and simultaneous uses, from learn-to-swim to water polo.
Commenting on the installation, S.R.Smith Special Projects Engineer Ole Hoskinson stated “the SwimWall provides pool operators with the flexibility to create multiple operational zones within their pool, increasing revenue opportunities.”
Having also completed SwimWall Systems™ installations at Wet'n'Wild Gold Coast and Bond University’s aquatic centre, Hoskinson is encouraged that the Australian market is looking positively at the technology.
He adds that the, Australian-developed SwimWall, acquired by S.R.Smith when it purchased All Fibreglass Products Pty Ltd in 2015, “is proven technology that can be customised for any pool design and easily be retrofitted to existing pools.”
With All Fibreglass Products now absorbed within S.R.Smith’s Australian operations, business founder David Bailey continues to consult on SwimWall projects, lending his 20 year experience to the ongoing development of the project.
The addition of the aquatic centre at Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus, which will be a training facility during the 2018 Commonwealth Games, is part of an expansion of the institution’s Health and Knowledge Precinct.
More than 17,000 students currently attend Griffith’s Gold Coast campus. This is expected to rise to more than 25,000 in the next 10 years.
Griffith University also operates the Mt Gravatt Aquatic and Fitness Centre at its Mt Gravatt Campus in Brisbane.
