The Round, a new performing arts venue in Melbourne’s east developed by Whitehorse City Council, has been opened.

Opened on Friday evening, the new venue builds upon the legacy of the former Whitehorse Centre in Nunawading, offering a 600-plus seat proscenium theatre, 200 seat studio theatre, two multipurpose rehearsal studios and versatile function spaces.

Set in expansive parklands, The Round is also home to a purpose-built soundshell for festivals and outdoor events, creating an entirely new stage for gatherings of all shapes and sizes heading into the warmer months.

Explaining that the new venue has been developed with a mission is to enrich culture, connection and community throughout Melbourne’s East, Whitehorse City Council Mayor, Mark Lane advised “Whitehorse City Council is incredibly excited to present The Round and unveil the new, world-class venue which we hope will become the cultural heart of Melbourne’s East.

“The Round has been designed to broaden the opportunities for our community to connect with the arts, as well as with one another, and be enjoyed for generations to come.”

The Council is welcoming audiences and hirers with a program of dance, theatre, music, festivals, special events, weddings and businesses conferences.
