VMA announces return of Institute of Venue Safety and Security program

VMA announces return of Institute of Venue Safety and Security program
June 7, 2024

Following the success of its inaugural Institute of Venue Safety and Security (IVSS) in 2023, the Venue Management Association (VMA) has announce that the program is to return for 2024.

Having rapidly gained recognition as the pre-imminent industry-led training institution in the region for safety, security and risk for the venues and events industry, IVSS Chair, Wayne Middleton advised “after the success of last year’s IVSS we’ve expanded the suite of topics, across a range of domains relevant to venue managers and risk professionals.

“These include security, risk management, health and safety, crowd science, life safety and compliance, emergency management, training and development, leadership and influence, and severe weather.

“By expanding the program across two years we are confident that students of IVSS will graduate with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to face the evolving risks and threats that venues face now and into the future.”

Following feedback and evaluation, the program will feature an expanded course curriculum delving deeper into the subjects offered, with IVSS 2024 forming part of a comprehensive two-year program, reflecting the VMA's commitment to advancing expertise and excellence in venue safety and security.

The IVSS is being held at Accor Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park, from Sunday 25th to Friday 30th August 2024 with enrolments now being accepted.

Enrolment fees include five nights’ accommodation at Pullman Sydney Olympic Park, all meals during the program, site visits, student resources and formal dinners.

Who should attend IVSS?
A residential program delivered by a diverse range of experts to train venue and event managers, security professionals and other key personnel, the IVSS’ instructors are industry leading professionals from Australia, New Zealand and Europe in roles such as global vice president - risk, head of security and safety, director of facilities and vice president IT and security.

IVSS will equip every attendee with the best practices, resources and tools needed to face the ever changing landscape of providing safe venues.

The program is designed as an in-depth, hands on experience with practical exercises and activities. Attendees who complete the program will gain new skills, valuable resources and practical advice to bolster their professional growth and add value to their organisation.

Middleton added “on behalf of the VMA Board, the IVSS Committee is excited to deliver this year’s program.”
