read moreCommunity festivals and events are recognised for offering multicultural and multifaith communities the opportunity to share and celebrate their cultures and traditions.
As such, the Victorian Government has announced that 189 community organisations will share in $1.2 million in funding to deliver events between 1st July and 31st December 2022.
Victorian Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ros Spence notes “we’re supporting multicultural and multifaith communities to come together and reconnect and celebrate through events and festivals across the state.”
“The Multicultural Festivals and Events program reaches all corners of Victoria and ensures our multicultural and multifaith communities stay connected to their culture, traditions and identity.”
The funding comes as part of the Multicultural Festivals and Events program, which aims to promote social connection, encourages the sharing of cultures and traditions and helps to revitalise Victoria’s events industry.
More than half of the funding has been distributed towards 85 events that support new and emerging community organisations.
Events include SalamFest Muslim Arts Festival to promote Islamic artistic expression, Johnston Street Fiesta hosted by the Hispanic Latin American Festival & Cultural Association, Multicultural Ohi Day Celebration organised by the Association of Greek Elderly Citizens Clubs of Melbourne and Victoria and Diwali celebrations hosted by The Ballarat Indian Association.
Since 2014, the State Government has invested in more than 5,600 multicultural festival and events across Victoria – worth a total value of $22.9 million.
