Two of Australian Reptile Park’s 23 stolen reptiles recovered

Two of Australian Reptile Park’s 23 stolen reptiles recovered
August 19, 2013

The Australian Reptile Park has advised that two Solomon Island Skinks, stolen from the Park on the night of 14th July, have been recovered by NSW Police and returned to the attraction.

Acknowledging the return of the Skinks, among 23 reptiles stolen from the Park at Somersby on the NSW Central Coast, Operations Manager Tim Faulkner stated "the skinks are in poor health right now; they were returned to us suffering malnutrition and dehydration.

"Their body temperature was cold and one had sustained some burns. We are hoping that with the appropriate medical treatment and care, they will recover.

"We now hold grave fears for the safety of the other reptiles though."

In recovering the Skinks, NSW Police arrested and charged two individuals.

After the theft, the Park offered a $10,000 reward for the safe return of 23 stolen reptiles.

An additional offer of $5,000 is made for information leading to the conviction of the individuals who stole the reptiles.

The reptiles, including snakes, lizards and a young alligator, were stolen from the behind-the-scenes education section of the Park.

Anyone with information about the theft is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, www.reptilepark.com.au
