Two injured over consecutive days in Whitsunday shark attacks
September 21, 2018

Two female tourists have suffered shark attacks on Queensland's Whitsunday Islands over consecutive days this week.

According to paramedicsa, a 12-year-old girl suffered a "significant leg injury" in a shark attack while swimming in shallow water at Cid Harbour yesterday.

She had been with her father and sister when she was attacked and received first aid at the scene, before, according to the Queensland Ambulance Service, being flown to hospital in a critical condition.

On Wednesday, Justine Barwick, a 46-year-old Tasmanian woman was treated for leg and torso wounds.

The woman had been snorkelling near a yacht when she was attacked and remains in a critical condition.

She was treated by a doctor who was on a nearby boat, before being flown to hospital and undergoing surgery.

Local media reported that authorities would implement shark control measures, including installing drum lines, in response to the incidents.

According to the Shark Attack File, unprovoked shark attacks have killed one person and injured 14 others in Australia this year.
