Turf renovation among projects funded for Queensland Country Racing Clubs

Turf renovation among projects funded for Queensland Country Racing Clubs
May 8, 2023

Queensland country racing clubs are to benefit from a new $3 million funding program in support for assets and infrastructure. The new Country Club Asset Funding Program (CCAF) – is set to replace the Country Racing Program (CRP).

A natural progression from the CRP, the CCAF follows the introduction of the State Government’s new funding model for racing, which reinvests 80% of Betting Tax revenue back into industry and guarantees higher minimum funding support for country racing.

The grants will help country racing clubs with infrastructure repairs, as well as maintenance and asset replenishment as assessed on a needs basis.

Set to build on the more than 300 projects supported across the state by the CRP since 2018, the CCAF is a $400,000 increase from the last grant round of the former program.

In the Far North Queensland region alone, almost 30 projects were approved under the CRP, ranging from a half-million-dollar track renovation at the Innisfail Turf Club to an almost $17,000 extension of the jockey and steward’s room at the Gordonvale Turf Club.

Innisfail Turf Club is located at Pease Park Innisfail. The Club was formed in 1888 and in 2013 held the 125th Annuals which always proves a big success. Global Turf was engaged by Racing Queensland to renovate both the East and West end of the track. Completing bulk earthworks, reconstructing cambers, installing subsoil drains, grassing as well as an entire new inside PVC rail.

Applications close 5th June 2023.
