read moreThe Tasmanian Government has today announced further details about their $3 million investment into one-off infrastructure upgrades at the Longford Racecourse, the Brighton Training Centre and the Devonport Racing Club.
Tasmanian Minister for Racing, Jane Howlett advises that the State Government is delivering infrastructure upgrades to meet the growing needs of today’s racing participants, as well as the next generation.
Minister Howlett added “Tasmanian racing is seeing an unprecedented number of female apprentices coming through the training program and the current facilities are not adequate. Funding of $1.5 million will be allocated towards these upgrades which will also include a new owners and participant’s area. This will help develop modern and safe facilities for participants.”
The greyhound, harness and thoroughbred training tracks at the Brighton Training centre are used 365 days a year by trainers across all three codes.
Funding of $800,000 will be provided to these facilities to address infrastructure needs including important track drainage upgrades and improvements to the Brighton Greyhound Straight track and lure replacement.
The Longford track is an important training facility for the thoroughbred code and funding of $700,000 will be provided towards upgrades at the facility including the construction of an 800-metre trial start chute and track drainage works.
The Devonport all-weather venue located at Spreyton is an all-year round thoroughbred training facility and also a key racing venue, especially during the winter period. The venue has hosted up to 23 meetings per year and a range of improvements are required to the Devonport Racing Club’s main amenities building especially the female jockey rooms.
