read moreIn what Netball Australia has described as "very unfortunate circumstances" last night’s Super Netball clash between the Adelaide Thunderbirds and the NSW Swifts has been declared a draw after a power outage at the Netball SA Stadium.
The match ran out of time in the allocated two-hour period after a pre-game delay for the removal of advertising decals on the court surface and then a power outage.
The start of the game was delayed for an hour after work as the decals, which had been deemed to be unsafe, were removed at the Adelaide venue.
During the game, with scores at 25-25 at half time, a blackout prevented the game resuming and being completed in time, with both teams taking two points.
Super Netball released a statement saying a "high voltage transformer issue" had caused the power outage.
Netball Australia Head of Integrity, Nicole Malcher later told Fox Sports “we had to delay the match within the match session time window.
"We extended it to allow us to complete the match within 120 minutes.
"Because we've extended it into that time, we don't have enough time to complete it within the session time window so we do have to declare the match at half-time [and] both teams will have two points for tonight's game.
"It's just really disappointing and very unfortunate circumstances tonight that a power outage has got us."
