Themed Attractions Malaysia to develop marine adventure park and waterpark
Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels Sdn. Bhd. (TARH), the leisure and tourism arm of the state-owned Kazanah Nasional Berhad - is investing RM267 million (US$85 million) in the construction and operation of two major new attractions in Desaru, Johor.
The first attraction will be a marine park and aqarium, called Ocean Quest, to be developed in partnership with the US-based Dolphin Quest, while the other is a water park called Ocean Splash. Both parks are scheduled to open in 2014.
With 17 kilometres of coast line and white sandy beaches, Desaru Coast is designed to be the luxury tourism destination.
TARH Chief Operating Officer Steve Peet explains that Ocean Quest will be an "interactive marine park" developed with conservation groups and focused on endangered species and education.
Peet explained that "Ocean Splash, will be an international quality water park and very different from any other existing water parks in Malaysia."
The site also includes additional space for a third attraction.
TARH is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Malaysian Government's investment arm, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, and was was incorporated in June 2009 to develop and operate theme parks and attractions in Malaysia, serving as a catalyst for the leisure and tourism industry and bringing premier international theme parks and attractions.
