read moreLeading international fitness equipment supplier Technogym has announced that over 20,000 people at 176 fitness clubs around the globe participated in its 'Let's Move for a Better World' campaign - Technogym's innovative social initiative to 'donate' physical exercise and promote wellness education in schools.
Thanks to mywellness cloud, the Technogym cloud computing platform, gym goers trained and collected MOVES - Technogym's unit of measure for movement – and share their training online with the community.
Starting from this unique technology, Technogym launched a global challenge between fitness clubs, to see which would be the most active club in each participating country – measured as the club that collected the most MOVES.
A Technogym statement explained that "the challenge generated a viral enthusiasm" among participating fitness centres, with the organisation of special extended-hours nights, parties, music events and programs in cooperation with local public institutions to motivate members and attract and new customers.
Technogym promoted the latest initiative through a web and social media campaign, including a microsite (www.technogym.com/letsmove) where users could find and access clubs where they could donate their exercise.
In total, 176 facilities from ten countries – including Australia, Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, the USA, Spain and Switzerland – participated in the campaign, generating more than 100 million MOVEs in the effort to help their local schools.
Banyule City Council's Watermarc facility was Australia's top 'Let's Move' performer, generating 3,743,464 MOVEs and recognition in the top five performers worldwide.
Commenting on the initiative, Watermarc Health Club Manager Darren Hancock stated "this campaign had the potential for improvement within our health club and its culture between members and personal trainers, cross promotional opportunities for our membership department, involvement from the local school and community as well as the improved culture of customer engagement amongst our members.
"From a club perspective we increased our 'Wellness Key' usage by 600 people by the end of the campaign and the 'average use minutes' from 157 at the begiining to a current of 294 minutes.
"(In addition) our Personnal Training contracts increased by 10%."
