Tasmanian Government commences consultation on site selection for AFL team centre

Tasmanian Government commences consultation on site selection for AFL team centre
August 11, 2023

The Tasmanian Government has advised that it has commenced discussions this week with Greater Hobart councils to find a home for Tasmania’s AFL Team.

The team’s Training and Administration facility is a key requirement of the agreement, and will underpin the attraction and retention of high-quality players, coaches, support staff and administrators to the club.

Tasmanian Minister for Stadia and Events, Nic Street, said the site selection was a vital step towards the State having its own team and notes the Tasmanian Government “is working closely with councils and the communities they represent as well as other key stakeholders to find suitable sites across Greater Hobart for the Tasmanian AFL team Training and Administration Centre.

“While ensuring the facility meets the needs of our AFL team, it is also vital that the community is part of the journey with the selection of the preferred site.

“A preferred site hasn’t been determined yet, but as we work with Councils towards finding the ideal location, we will be sure to engage the community on what this opportunity can deliver for them.

“Not only will the Centre provide players and staff every opportunity to be successful on and off the field, it will also be an important community asset and a beacon of health and wellbeing in the State.

“This is Tasmania’s team, and we want all Tasmanians to feel welcome at its home.”

The Tasmanian Government has committed up to $60 million for the Centre, with a further $10 million investment having been committed by the AFL.
