Suncorp Stadium set to shine in State of Origin decider

Suncorp Stadium set to shine in State of Origin decider
June 23, 2015

In a busy year for Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium, with more than 750,000 fans having already attended 34 events at the venue already in 2015, the hosting of the State of Origin decider on 8th July looks set to be the year's highlight.

The game itself is now guaranteed to be a sellout, and the exposure for it and the venue is expected to be at an all time high.

Commenting on preparations for the big fixture, Suncorp Stadium Communications and Marketing Manager Greg Adermann explained "while all Queenslanders would have the Maroons to have won game two and lock the 2015 Origin series away, having the series go to a third game decider at what is arguably the best rugby league venue in the country has certainly created a tremendous amount of interest around town.

"League fans are excited not to mention the hotel, pub and club and restaurant owners who are expected to do great business ahead of kick-off.

"For Suncorp Stadium staff, it will be business as usual.

"Origin is traditionally our busiest event of the year and like with any full-house events, there is a lot of preparation and planning to be done."

Inspite of a heavier than usual schedule of events already staged at the Stadium in 2015, Adermann says that "the field of play should be in great condition for the game."

He adds that the full 2015 schedule "has presented a number of challenges to the grounds staff as they alternate between rugby league, rugby union and soccer (football), but they have been fortunate to have had two weeks without events in June and will have another 12 day window before the Origin decider - through late June and early July - to prepare the field."

The third State of Origin tie will be the first of three blockbusters to be staged at the Stadium in July.

On 17th July, nine days after Origin, the Stadium will host Liverpool FC v Brisbane Roar in front of what should also be a full-house, followed by the Wallabies v Springboks rugby Test on 18th July and the Brisbane Broncos playing the Wests Tigers the day after (19th July).

Adermann concludes "tripleheaders are not new for the Stadium (and) this one will require staff to work long hours and throughout the night to reconfigure the venue from soccer to rugby to league but again with good planning and teamwork, we will see Suncorp Stadium at its very best and hopefully more than 120,000 fans will take away happy memories from all three games."
