read moreNew Zealand Sport and Recreation Agency SPARC has completed the change of its name to Sport New Zealand (Sport NZ)
The change, first announced by New Zealand Sport and Recreation Minister Murray McCully, in October last year, captures the organisation's strategic focus in leading the country's sports system, and aligns with subsidiary organisation High Performance Sport New Zealand, which supports the country's elite athletes.
As the Government agency responsible for sport and recreation, Sport NZ will continue to focus on getting more Kiwis into sport, and more kids into sport and, through High Performance Sport NZ, more winners on the world stage.
Sport NZ also says that it will continue to work across the sport and recreation sector to build capability, from grass roots to high performance, and will continue to invest in community sport and recreation.
The move follows the merger between SPARC and the New Zealand Academies of Sport last year.
Explaining the change, Minister McCully stated "SPARC's strategic focus has changed in recent years and Sport NZ better captures this. Sport NZ will continue to invest in community sport and recreation and build capacity across the entire sector in its role leading the single sport and recreation system."
The organisation now has a new website address (see the link below) and e-mail addresses (now listed as firstname.lastname@sportnz.org.nz) but phone numbers remain the same.
