Shoalhaven City Council shares sporting facilities project update

Shoalhaven City Council shares sporting facilities project update
September 23, 2021

With over 60 sporting field projects currently underway this financial year, Shoalhaven City Council is ensuring its community has access to the best sports facilities.

Current projects included facility upgrades for Nowra Showground, Berry Showground, Kangaroo Valley Showground and Milton Showground, and $600,000 in funding for floodlight upgrade works at Ulladulla Sporting Complex, Bomaderry Sporting Complex, Ulladulla Tennis Complex, Francis Ryan Oval and Huskisson Sportsground, along with Irrigation and Drainage projects.

The Shoalhaven Sports Board, which meets quarterly, were provided an update on Council’s sporting field projects at a recent meeting with Shoalhaven Sports Board Chairman, David Goodman (recently re-elected for a period of two years) impressed by Council’s progress.

Goodman noted “I have every confidence that Shoalhaven City Council is prioritising the sporting community and investing in building state-of-the-art sporting facilities for communities across the region.

“The Shoalhaven Sports Board plays an important role in advocating for the sporting community, ensuring that residents and visitors to the region have access to the best sports facilities. Participating in a sport provides our community with rich opportunities to connect with one another and live an active lifestyle.”

The Shoalhaven Sports Board provides advocacy for the sporting community on policy, direction and strategic planning related to Council’s objectives. To achieve this policy and strategic objective, the Board will be strategic in nature and focus on appointments to achieve this outcome.

Council ensures that allocated funding including the Special Rate Variation is spent on improving and upgrading sporting facilities in the Shoalhaven. Council in addition apply for and have been successful in a number of grants from both State and Federal Government to enhance the spend on the region’s sporting facilities. The Shoalhaven Sports Board report highlights the funding allocation for each project.

Council has recently been successful in securing $8 million dollars from Stage 1 of the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, co-funded by the Australian and NSW governments to deliver the Artie Smith Oval redevelopment for state facilities for AFL and Cricket and relocating and extending Croquet to be a four-court facility.
